The Banni Grasslands
Hodka sits right on the edge of the Banni grassland, one of the largest grasslands in Asia, stretching along the southern edge of the Great Rann of Kutch. This unique ecosystem supports hardy grasses, seasonal wetlands and a rich variety of birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans and migratory species during the winter months.
The region is home to the semi-nomadic Maldhari pastoralist communities, known for rearing the indigenous Banni buffalo, and to numerous villages famous across Kutch for their intricate hand embroidery, mirror-work and leather craft.
